About Berne Workwear
Originally known as Berne Overall and Shirt Company, Berne Workwear got its start in the small Swiss immigrant town of Berne, Indiana in 1915. Berne’s initial goal was to provide the mid-western farmers affordable and durable workwear. Over the last 100 years Berne has extended the custom work apparel vision to include construction and contractors.
The Berne and ARES Sportswear Partnership
Originally, ARES Sportwear CEO & Founder Mike Campbell would make a 2 hour drive trip to Berne, Indiana twice per year to meet with their catalog printer. On one such trip, he stumbled upon Berne Workwear driving around the small town. Despite the company name, Campbell had no idea they were headquartered in Berne, Indiana. Realizing Berne’s proximity to ARES Sportswear, the companies began working together to create high quality custom embroidered work and safety apparel.
As an aside, Campbell urges anyone who has never been to Berne, Indiana to make the trip if they are in the area. The Swiss influence on the town is a very interesting site and the people are small town Midwest awesome. As one would expect from a town of Swiss heritage, the town is full of high quality small manufacturing companies.
